Members of Spring Woods UMC serve in leadership positions in several Scout units throughout the Spring-Klein area and across the greater Houston community. We also have leaders from the community who serve Scouting here at Spring Woods. Core to this ministry is the congregation’s support of Scouting as a means of serving the children and youth in our community. Thank you for your continued support and prayers.
Girl Scouts
Girl Scouts involve girls from Kindergarten through high school. Many members of our church family lead troops in their neighborhood, extending the influence of our church community. Several girls are beginning work on the Gold Award, the highest honor in Girl Scouting.
Cub Scouts
Cub Scouting involves boys from first through fifth grad. Packs 900 & 52 involve boys from first through fifth grade. Dens of each age group meet weekly, many here at the church. The packs meet monthly in the Great Hall.
Pack 900 serves boys from Pat Reynolds Elementary in Spring ISD. Zeke Pacheco is the Cubmaster and Jennifer Garcia is the committee chair. Spring Woods has chartered Pack 900 since 1998.
Pack 52 serves boys from Meyer Elementary and Bammel Elementary, also in Spring ISD. Amy Manwaring is the Cubmaster and Nora Martinez is the committee chair. Pack 52 started Scouting in March, 2009.
Boy Scouts
Troop 900 serves boys from age 11 through 17. These Scouts come from both the Spring and Klein ISD areas. The troop meets every Monday night near the outdoor pavilion and camps monthly. Troop 900 will travel to Sid Richardson Scout Ranch for summer camp June 28-July 4. The Scoutmaster is Mike Sondergaard and Cindy King is the committee chair. Spring Woods has chartered Troop 900 since 1963.
Venturing Crew 900
Venturing Crew 900 is a co-ed program led by youth in high school and early college (ages 14-20). With support from adult leadership, the crew actually plans and implements their program. The crew cheerfully supports other Scout groups and staffs many Scouting activities such as Scout Fair, the Polaris District Dinner, and the Pack 900 Blue & Gold Banquet. The crew president is Dillon Fruzia and the crew advisor is Brent Fruzia. Mary Fruzia serves as the committee chair. Spring Woods has chartered Crew 900 since 2004.
